Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center — Aquatic Therapy Program

Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center is one of the largest and most respected rehabilitation hospitals in the United States, located in Downey, California.

In operation since 1888 and owned by Los Angeles County, Rancho Los Amigos serves nearly 4,000 inpatients and over 85,000 outpatient visits annually, treating some of the most complex rehabilitative cases in the country. Aquatic therapy at Rancho Los Amigos is offered through the award-winning Don Knabe Wellness and Aquatic Center — a state-of-the-art facility featuring a dedicated therapy swimming pool with an underwater treadmill, designed to support therapeutic exercise, range of motion, ambulation, endurance, and dynamic standing activities.

The aquatic therapy program serves patients recovering from spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, stroke, neurological disorders, and orthopedic conditions. Aquatic therapy is delivered by specially trained recreation and physical therapists as part of a comprehensive, patient-centered rehabilitation plan. The Don Knabe Wellness Center is open to current inpatients, former patients, and local residents. A physician referral is required for therapeutic services.
